Green Drinks!

Don't forget, tonight is the dawning of the Green Drinks movement-Jackson Hole.

This will be our local version of hundreds of communities coming together to exchange ideas on being Earth-friendly. And it's Earth day! Fancy that! It's around happy-hour time at Lyndsey McCandless Contemporary (like most every awesome event we attend), and you can feel good about the earth while getting sloshed.

REVIEW: Locavores and Aid for Guinea

Last night was an exemplary example of how fruitful the free events in Teton Valley can be. After work we headed over the pass to Victor for the annual "Locavore's Night Out" and indulged in free food and booze from awesome local vendors.

Grand Teton Brewing Co. announced its "Pub Nights" starting in June (more on that as the time comes) while pouring me ample samples of four brews. The Jackson Hole grocer offered valley-made meat and cheeses along with chips, salsa, and raw honey on a spoon. Lots of local wines and mead wines offered boozy delights.

Reminds us all that local food is better for our bellies, our health, and the health of our planet and community. I'm proud to be a locavore.

Next on the free agenda, I headed over to my friend Trish's house for a gathering of good vibes and consciousness (and more wine!) as we celebrated the debut docu-ad for Woontenara Aid, started by Daria (no legal last name, how cool is that?!) who you might recognize from African drumming and dancing workshops.

Daria been going to Guinea (West Africa for those with limited global mapping brains) for the past few years and feels compelled to make a difference in the lives of these glowing impoverished people. No website yet, but she's working on that as well as getting Non-Profit 501(c)3 status. Truly inspiring, I can't wait to make a donation.

$25 feeds a family of four for a week. That would be my bartab on any given night if I weren't such a lush mooch of free liquor in Jackson...

Put on your dancin' shoes and yoga pants...

Jackson Hole natives, look outside at the melting snow and sun/rain mix. You know what that means, the off-season. We at jhsceneandheard.com have learned that not all fun is lost in this troubling time known as April, because the free opportunities are abundant and flowing. It may not be warm enough to go paddling and the snow may be in the way of your mountain bike trails, but not all hope is lost for blood pumping action: the Center for the Arts has come to the rescue!

This week all Dancer's Workshop adult classes are free, thanks to their semi-annual open house, occurring now. All you have to do is attend in comfy clothing, and who knows? You may a natural at belly dancing or flamenco. In addition to dance classes, they offer plenty of opportunities for guided exercise, so you can work off that aprés-ski beer belly you worked so diligently on this winter.

Frogs have been hopping the planet for 250 million years. They've evolved into some of the most wondrous and diverse animals on earth. But suddenly they're slipping away. From Australia to Panama, we've already lost one third of the world's amphibians and more are disappearing each day. Some say it's the greatest extinction since the dinosaurs. Ecosystems are beginning to unravel, important medical cures are vanishing, and we're losing a dear, old friend. It's one of the greatest environmental crises of our time. Scientists and citizens around the world are rushing to stem the tide before the next frog crosses the thin, green line.

FIRST FRIDAY - BEE THERE!

Lindsay is hosting another 1st friday event at her gallery on South Jackson Street and it's sure to not disappoint. See you there.

New-to-the-valley artist Megan Fitz is exploring the disappearing bee issue through her large scale bee prints. The cool deal is that Dragon Lady will be there with her delicious teas and honey to accompany. NO bees = No honey... deep, eh?

Also, forget the crowded Caddy. Nani's is now offering 2 for 1's, not only from 5-7 but also from 9-10 (theoretically you could hit up Nani's then head over to the Caddy for the second happy happy hour)! So what makes this over priced pasta house's happy hours exceptional? They are servin bad ass sliders with proschuito and cheese on foccicia. I had one this week and they are scrumptious, delightful, and free. word.
